I find it weird sometimes when we act like being christians mean we dont have sexual or emotional tensions, or we don't face the same temptations other people face.well,think again cos we most certainly do!contrary to what we might like to believe,we are not super human nor above temptation,but God's grace helps us handle the pressure.
Growing up,Amy Grant was one of my favorite gospel artistes,she sang a love song in one of her albums and some fanatics went ballistic,rumours spread like wild fire,that Amy Grant was no longer a christian!I was stunned speechless,cos I grew up being a christian,I could not imagine being anything else in life, and I loved Amy and her songs,but then I read a quote from Amy in one of the foreign tabloids,I quote;
"being a christian doesnt mean you don't fall in love"
Right there and then I loved Amy even more,she never said anything vulgar,immoral or profane in the song, she just sang about love, much like I write about love alot as a poet,because that is one feeling I think is impossible to hide.
You can not truly be in love or love someone(friends,family etc) and not make it obvious.
Each day,my biggest fear is shying away from God's love or failing to say what is the obviously right thing to do because I dont want to be termed prim and proper,prudish or a goody-two-shoe(names I have been called quite a bit),cos I should be more concerned about what God thinks of me,but its so hard sometimes.Why?cos we live and breath with these people so we want to impress and please them,failing to realise that if you truly are a child of God, you are in His presence at all times so you should try to please Him.
The wonderful thing about God,is that he is so loving and merciful,He just wants to see us try,and he will give us the strength we need to pull through.
We have all been faced with situations where we had to make decisions that were tough,sometimes we make the right choices and sometimes we make the wrong choices cos they seem a lot easier to deal with,but the truth is, "EVERYONE IS DOING IT,DOES NOT MAKE IT RIGHT!"
Sometimes we make it seem like God is going to bend the rules because a lot of people are already involved.
I am going to share my own little rules with anyone who cares to read this,it sure doesnt make me perfect,but it sure helps me stay sane and on track,most times;
- NEVER MAKE EXCUSES WHEN YOU GO WRONG
- ASK GOD FOR FORGIVENESS,NO MATTER HOW GUILTY THE DEVIL MAKES YOU FEEL
- NEVER CONTINUE ON A WRONG TRACK COS YOU THINK YOU HAVE ALREADY MISSED THE PATH
on a final note,I will share a poem I wrote as a teen,some of you must have read it before.if you think its crap,dont tell me!I was only fourteen then!
FOR THESE TIME....
In a world where indecency is decent
where immorality is moral
in a world where wrong is right
where right is wrong
just cos everyone is involved
in this generation where fools are wise
and wise are considered fools
in this generation where evil is the "in thing"
where the "in thing" is evil
how can a decent heart stay afloat?
in our time when everyone is scared
too scared to make commitments
in our time when youths are too hype
too hype to care about God
what kind of future do we forsee?
In out time when serving God is old fashioned
when people run away from God
In our time when people turn away from light
when groping in the dark is prefered
how long will it take before we stumble?
In these times when our parents are considered ignorant
when the words of our elders are no longer words of wisdom
when we seem to have the answers to our own question
howbeit wrong or right
will our "know it all" stand the test of time?
Dear God,what is our world turning into
where lies our fate?
was sodom and gomorah this vile?
where lies our hope?
Dear Lord,all I have are questions
