Why not? And I am not talking raunchy sex like R. Kelly’s song “sex me” of the 90’s, neither are we talking about Boyz II men’s romantic “I’ll make love to you”, rather we are talking Salt n’ pepa’s LETS TALK ABOUT SEX, all songs from the same era. Don’t ask me why I am using songs from the 90’s to buttress my topic, because I do not have the slightest clue.
I was as usual chatting with my muse (S.T), and the topic came up, we started out talking about how sex seem to dominate every aspect of our lives and society. It is shoved in our faces on TV, and i am not talking about movies...adverts, both local and international, let me give you some examples home and abroad;
Chocolate (I won’t mention the brand)- hot, sexy lady is asked if she has ever had an affair, she pauses to think and, we hear all kinds of moaning sounds, then she smiles and shows us a bar of chocolate, and I quote “not with a man” she said
In our very own Naija (a popular detergent)-the usual conversation between two women that we hear in all detergent advert, and finally the advert end with something like this, "just like man, no be the size matter" and they both laughed suggestively! This is just a frigging soap!
I think they were probably asked to take it off air, cos it didn’t stay on air for long.
My point is, sex sells and we buy cos it is intriguing. This is not an article where I stand on some moral high ground, and I would appreciate if the comments are just your opinions not just to attack each other, what is it about sex that seem to have turned the world upside down like Sodom and gomorah in the bible (perversion was one of their biggest sins) and the world is like that today. It has become a situation where people feel if you can’t beat them, you join them. People are afraid to say what they really think if they are against the whole “sex rules the world parade” and some even get entangled in some perverse pleasures just to feel like they belong, swingers (couples swapping partners), orgies (no holds barred) and all the others i know absolutely nothing about. If we ask people on a religious ground what they think about stealing and murder, we are all united when we condemn it...but try asking about fornication, and its going to sound like one of those things we imagine, God said its ok if you have a good reason. Like i said earlier, I am not on a moral high ground, rather I am saying because “everyone does it” does not justify it, so let’s quit acting like it does!
Well, back to the topic...cos the intention is not to berate anyone or group, whats the hype? Why do the ratings on movies go lower and lower till porn eventually rate PG! What is it about sex that makes some men act like kids and some women act like whores?
Lets keep the comments objective, I am not just ranting and raving this time, I really want to know what people think.
