The Old National Anthem

Nigeria we hail thee Our own dear native land
Though tongues and tribes may differ
In brotherhood we stand
Nigerian all are proud to serve our sovereign motherland

This flag shall be a symbol
That truth and justice reign
In peace and battle honored and this we count as gain
To hand onto our children
A banner without stain

 O God of all creation
Grant this our one request
Help us to build a nation
Where no one is oppressed
And so with peace and plenty
Nigeria may be blessed

I must have said this like a thousand times before, that the old national anthem (which most people of our generation are totally unaware of ) is a more heartfelt and inspiring anthem. I saw a copy of it  somewhere in my folks' archives when I was in my early teens and I practically forced my mum to teach me. Lets not just keep praying for Nigeria, we need to act like the nation means something to us. Sometimes we act like prayer alone without any efforts on our part is going to transform the country and the world at large. Well, get over your lazy self and start being the change you seek.

God bless Naija!
